Ben Goldsmith “Haunted”

Ben Goldsmith “Haunted”

WRITTEN BY MILLIE TURNER

Long Island native Ben Goldsmith (he/him) is a singer-songwriter that has been making a splash in recent years. He is currently represented by Sony Music and Free Flight Records. Goldsmith (he/him) has a classic style of music that is refreshing for his age. This young up and coming pop artist has a Michael Bublé crooner style. His newest single “Haunted” was released on March 14.

“Haunted” is a pensive story of letting go of a person in your life that you love, but is no longer serving you in a healthy way. Goldsmith explains, I wrote this song from a specific experience with a close family member that suffered from addiction. His positive influence on my life is something I carry with me although we no longer have a connection. There is humanity in all people. I believe we always have to look for the light people possess even in the darkest of situations.”

The song’s instrumentals consist primarily of piano and percussion that are paired with long, drawn-out vocals laced with melancholy. The lyrics, “All these promises / That you made to me / Just like everything / They fell apart” are especially heartbreaking and are the core of the song. “Haunted” is an anthem for all of those plagued by the despair of a family member in crisis. That loved one is still alive but they feel as if they have passed on due to their troubles distancing them from everyone is their life. Goldsmith’s quote explaining the motivation behind “Haunted” speaks to not only the song, but how we can cope. You can appreciate the good times, the laughs and the connection you had with your loved one before the trouble started, but also have the wisdom to let them go for the time being for your own sake.

Ben Goldsmith (he/him) will be performing in Nashville, Tennessee on May 25th. You can find “Haunted” on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.
