Chlothegod

WRITTEN BY A.A.V.

Given my newfound ability to write and dissect an artist’s or song’s identity, I’ve scoured through all ends and corners of Spotify, hearsay from acquaintances, and occasional non-working SoundCloud links. I’m quite selective when it comes to an artist and if their music speaks enough to motivate me to rummage through their discography and commit to adding them to a future playlist. After a rigorous search, I finally found a one of a kind gem that made it onto my “brain candy” list.

Chloe Chavis (she/her), formally known as Chlothegod, is a new and upcoming singer from North Carolina. Chlo’s style is a compatible combination of eccentric and alternative stylings with neo-soul roots. The Masquerade Atlanta details her upbringing as “like that of so many rebels: escaping the boredom of having nothing to do but hang out in the Walmart parking lot.”

Chlo’s debut single with “Camille” in 2023 pays respect to her earlier moments in her childhood listening to Eryhka Badu and Jill Scott with her mother. “Camille” is a soft, sensual song paired with Chlo’s chill and honey-warm vocals. After “Camille”, Chlo released “Bless Your Heart” within the same year, and while both songs contain soul and R&B themes, “Bless Your Heart” is a prayer of a melody with Chlo’s vocals haunting the chorus. The introduction of Chlo’s voice appearing vulnerable while expressing the song’s heartbreak is intimately delightful.

The third single that came out of her 2023 collection, “Outta My Mind” is a punk-rock anthem of the worst-case-scenarios and intrusive thoughts manifesting in a dysfunctional beat. Chlo’s mastery of switching her vocals from smooth and buttery to strong and emotional deserves more recognition as her attitude changes the way she blends herself into different genres.

Her current album released in 2025, I Feel Different Every Day, has many unique singles such as “Digging Around,” “My GF H8s Me,” and “Stuck In My Ways.” Her lyrics, sometimes absurd without context, reflect her expressive and laid-back personality and I know with time, Chlothegod will become an icon for the reclusive and introverts like myself.

With certainty, Chlothegod will continue to produce zany and colorful music. What lies ahead of her current journey is unknown to many but for me and many of her fans, her music will find life in our playlists.
