WRITTEN BY NEVAEH TILLMAN
I usually listen to Pop, R&B, and Hip Hop, but some artists can get me to break the cycle. Krooked Tongue invites me out of my comfort zone to enjoy their new single, “Ember Mile.” What I love most about the rock music genre is how they use each instrument to their advantage to bring the livelihood of the song to life. If you follow my writing, you know I can’t get enough of guitar riffs. It itches a part of my brain that I can’t reach. Krooked Tongue uses the guitar riffs perfectly as they slow the tempo and speed it up to intensify the build up to the chorus—it’s unique and beautifully done. It makes me wish I played an instrument because I would have loved to learn the craft of their sound and try it out myself, but my air guitar will have to do.
Krooked Tongue found their soundscape and continues to use it to highlight their talent. The band consists of Oli Rainsford, the lead vocalist and on bass, Dan Smith, the guitarist and vocalist, and Harry Pritchard, on drums. Their press release explains that they have, “shared the stage with False Heads, Virgin Marys, Phoxjaw, Moriaty, Pulled Apart By Horses, The Soap Girls and Mother Vulture…” They have done so much, and still have more to give! You can’t question their passion because you can hear it through the strumming of the guitar, the beat of the drums, and the lyrics sung loud and clearly.
Rainsford explains, “‘Ember Mile’ is the clairvoyance, a beacon to channel your dreams and actually make something happen. SO often we talk about doing things but never follow through. I suppose this is the kick up the arse to make it happen. I wanted this song to feel like an internal monologue, breaking the fourth wall and spitting back with a sarcastic tongue.” In other words, this song is like leveling up to the next level in a video game—full of adrenaline to get the victory. A personal message to Krooked Tongue, you guys continue to impress me with each release and I can’t wait to continue to follow along to see what else is in store. Check out “Ember Mile” to join in on the strong sound waves.!
