Dead Eyes “Take Me Too”

Dead Eyes “Take Me Too”

WRITTEN BY MILLIE TURNER

Dead Eyes, a rock quartet from Baltimore, Maryland, makes music that reflects their personal struggles and unifies their listeners. Band members include vocalist Zach Williams (he/him), guitarist Jim Poggi (he/him), bass guitarist Eric Rembecki (he/him), and drummer Chris Chapman (he/him) who work together to create heavy and energetic sounds with raw lyrics that resonate with all. Emotional honesty is key to the foundation of their lyric writing, as seen in their latest single “Take Me Too”.

“Take Me Too” was released on March 21st. This new electrifying and powerful rock ballad consists of themes of loss, grief and moving on after losing someone you love. Dead Eyes describes their newest single as “...struggling to cope with a big loss. In the aftermath, it's easy to feel like all of the good things in your life went away with that person and be left with the feeling of, "If this is what it feels like to live without you, then I don't want to go on." Williams skillfully displays the despondency of the lyrics through soft vocals and the occasional outburst of a “screamo” style of singing.

As all art, music is subjective. The lyrics of “Take Me Too” can be interpreted as a breakup song or a sorrowful description of the feelings after the loss of a loved one. The emotions and sound in the single vary from hushed woe to booming desperation. The chorus displays the former with the lyrics “I never want to lose you / I never want to let you go / If this is what it feels like / Then go ahead and take me too.” The chorus is paired with a simple yet powerful guitar melody which is followed by a thunderous vocal “Take Me Too!”. The agony of the vocals in the display of this lyric is powerfully accurate.

Dead Eyes will be on two separate tours this spring. You can see them along with Set It Off, Weathers, and Zero in Temp, Arizona as well as several cities across California. You can also see Dead Eyes touring with Beartooth, Gideon, The Callous Doaboys, and Until I Wake in St. Louis, MO, Knoxville, TN and Memphis, TN at the end of this spring.

Dead Eyes is streaming on Youtube, Spotify and on the band’s website.
