GLOSSER’s New EP Angel Dust Pushes Boundaries in Dreamy Indie Pop

WRITTEN BY CAITLIN TRAVERS

This past November, Washington, D.C.-based indie pop duo GLOSSER unveiled their latest project, Angel Dust, via If This Then Records. Following the success of the acclaimed singles “Silver Star” and the EP’s title track, the four-track EP represents a bold step forward for the duo, who describe the collection as a playground of sonic experimentation.

“The EP isn’t about one specific thing...” The band explains, “Each track is its own entity, an expression of where we want to go as a band. We wanted to experiment a ton and have fun making new music. Each song has its own distinct vibe and energy…” Building on the momentum of their 2023 full-length album DOWNER, Angel Dust showcases a darker, more danceable evolution in GLOSSER’s sound. The Washington City Paper lauds the band’s growth, noting how the new tracks reveal a murky, nostalgic world filled with “hushed vocals and delicate synths” alongside an edgier undercurrent. The EP’s title track perfectly embodies this new energy as a whirlwind of danceable yet melancholic soundscapes. To mark the release, the band is sharing visualizers for the tracks “NYD” and “Dove Dreams,” adding an artistic dimension to the music on YouTube.

Since their formation, Riley Fanning and Corbin Sheehan have drawn inspiration from acts like Phantogram, Lorde, and Beach House, crafting a sound that bridges introspective dreamscapes and visceral pop moments. From their 2021 self-titled debut EP to their 2023 album DOWNER and its deluxe edition earlier this year, GLOSSER has continuously redefined their artistry, combining heartfelt intimacy with broad sonic exploration. This song has found a cozy spot in my winter playlists, and I strongly urge everyone to give this new album a listen!
