Have a Cry Session Listening to Miguel’s New Single, “Always Time”

WRITTEN BY NEVAEH TILLMAN

One artist that will forever be iconic to me is Miguel. When I think of R&B, I immediately think of Miguel–he’s such an exceptional artist that he has become a part of the growth of the R&B genre. Ironically enough, he is also a part of my childhood, as I grew up listening to him since his album All I Want Is You. I vividly remember sitting in the backseat as my mom drove and listening to Kaleidoscope Dream back-to-back. I don’t know why my 10-year-old self was screaming the lyrics to the album. Still till this day, Kaleidoscope Dream is my favorite album. However, Miguel has recently released a new single, “Always Time,” that’s now added to my favorites.

This single is special to me because it reminds me of his early soundscape. I found this song in my apple music “new music” playlist and decided to listen. Miguel’s voice is so angelic, and the message of the song makes it more heartfelt. “Always Time” focuses on the idea of loving someone, but knowing that you should set them free. In other words, coming to terms with a breakup. Listening to this song may cause reflections of your past relationships. But, I think it’s important to know that you aren’t alone. Unfortunately, heartbreak is a universal experience, and Miguel releasing this song showcases vulnerability.

“Always Time”  uses an acoustic guitar that stays consistent and gives off the romantic feel, however when you listen to the lyrics the truth is revealed in the story. His run ons are beautifully sung and it’s hard to not have this song on repeat. I love Miguel’s distinctive sound and tone. It’s something about his tone that gives me goosebumps, it’s so addicting. In this case, my favorite part of “Always Time” is the end, as his background vocals stand out beautifully as the beat picks up in its tone. One thing about Miguel is his range–I always found it incredible how his soundscape is ultimately R&B, however, the production of his beats is electrifying. He uses guitars and sometimes synthesizers to bring the music to life. Listen to “Always Time,” stay vulnerable, and find peace in your past relationships.
