WRITTEN BY CAITLIN TRAVERS
As summer comes to an end and the burdens that come with new school years begin to grow heavy, I find myself reaching for tracks that have a slightly nostalgic, coming-of-age sound. Seattle-based indie-rock band instant crush has given me the perfect track with which I can welcome the turning seasons: “APOLOGY TOUR”.
Accompanied by a music video that perfectly encapsulates the energy of 1999 teen romantic comedy 10 Things I Hate About You (filmed in the very same high school!), the song’s electric sound has already earned it a spot high on my list of September favorites. Megan Cannon describes the inspiration behind the single and MV: “Growing up, 10 Things I Hate About You was the perfect blend of lightheartedness and relatability. It’s the quintessential coming-of-age film, and as Seattle natives, we wanted to honor our roots by celebrating our youth in a way that felt authentic and true to us.”
Beyond just paying homage to their hometown, instant crush also gives back to their community through their partnership with Seattle nonprofit record label Share It Music. A portion of the proceeds from their upcoming debut album, SORRY I DIDN’T BITE MY TONGUE are going to the Joyful Heart Foundation, an organization focused on their mission to transform society’s response to sexual assault, domestic violence, and child abuse, as well as support survivors and end this violence forever.
“APOLOGY TOUR” acts as a sneak peek for this album, titled I'M SORRY I DIDN'T BITE MY TONGUE. With their unique twist on 2000s alternative-indie-rock sound, this album is shaping up to be insanely good. Cannon comments on the album’s origins and inspiration, describing how it “captures how I found myself, and who I wanted to be while tapping into every emotion I have felt. Writing this album taught me how to speak up for myself as a person, and to say what is on my mind no matter how much fear saying those words might bring me.”
Along with the announcement of the highly anticipated album’s release date, October 25th, the band released information regarding their September tour. Spanning two countries with locations spanning the west coast from Vancouver to Phoenix, instant crush is giving some fans the opportunity to see their thrilling sound in person. I know if I lived on the West Coast, I’d be jumping at this opportunity, so go support instant crush in person this September!
