Music can be enjoyed in many different ways, whether it’s to dance, sing along to relatable lyrics, or if you need a good cry. The best part is that you can get all of these layers in many types of genres. Today’s artists continue to showcase how impactful music is, and in this case, Jake Bugg is a part of this music’s evolution.
Bugg recently released A Modern Day Distraction and gives listeners layers of life in one album. Bugg’s press release further explains that this album is “a record that turns up the noise while shining a light on the injustice he’s seen dealt to the family and friends he grew up with. Fiery and engaged, the record was born out of a frustration of societal Inequality.” In other words, Bugg made this album for the people. Now, that’s what I call a great artist using his platform for good.
The album is driven by rock, but Bugg maintains his own unique twist . The songs on the album may surprise you. Through his instrumental gifts and lyricism, he manages to bring out a different range to rock. Some songs that stuck out to me are “Never Said Goodbye,” “Waiting for the World,” “Got To Let You Go,” and “All That I Needed Was You.” Each song maintains a storytelling element, a catchy chorus, and keeps you moving your feet. Themes of love, never giving up, grief, and more are explored beautifully. He remains open to vulnerability, allowing his listeners to relate. Bugg is 30 years old, but manages to capture younger audiences in his crowds…safe to say, he continues to impact people of all ages.
