Janet Devlin’s Back To My Senses

Janet Devlin’s Back To My Senses

WRITTEN BY A.A.V.

Irish singer and songwriter Janet Devlin has returned with her newest single “Back To My Senses” and just by the title, it’s a promising hit on the horizon.

Devlin’s first taste of stardom happened when she was a contestant on The X Factor and performed Elton John’s “Your Song.” Her audition became viral and after her impressive run on The X Factor, she began releasing singles until her first project, Hide and Seek. “Back To My Senses” was her first single she recorded in Nashville and states the song’s inspiration comes from her past battles with her mental health. “I know I’m not the first and I surely won’t be the last person to make a stupid mistake in a relationship because of my mental health. The feeling of coming to when the mental fog has gone and being left alone with nothing but a heart full of regrets.”

Devlin’s main genre focuses on indie, folk, and country pop, which I rarely listen to but I was drawn by Devlin’s wispy voice. “Back To My Senses” highlights Devlin’s siren-like vocals that smooth over the guitar chords. It’s a song that cleanses the ears’ palette and seeps into the spirit. With the song having more of a country-esque edge, it’s slower pace in terms of tempo and relies on the guitar to carry the beat.

As someone who doesn’t pay much attention to country and indie songs and the genre itself, I’ve grown to appreciate Devlin’s take on it because her style is more personal and genuine. I strongly recommend listening to “Back To My Senses” after a rough week of self-evaluation and collecting yourself once more to continue on with life.

Janet Devlin has established herself in her respective industry but with “Back To My Senses,” I believe she will continue to blossom her artistry and garner new fans like myself, all while being true to her aesthetic and talent.
