Barcelona-based Argentinian singer LAU (Laura Fares, she/her) and Finnish synth artist AKRAS (he/him) have recently released their collaborative single, “Drifting Away”. With a vibrant sound constructed on LAU’s striking vocals and smooth instrumentals and incredible musicality from AKRAS, this single is just one stunning piece in LAU’s soon-to-be released album, Digital Dream. The album as a whole, LAU describes, “talks about love, attraction, heartache, and friendship…the crazy modern times we live in…and the struggle to be seen,”—and this theme feels completely at home in the retro-modern, ‘80s road-trip vibe “Drifting Away” boasts. Impressively, this is LAU’s third studio album, and with each release, LAU’s incredible experience on the production side continues to shine—while she continues to “[record] all vocals, some keyboards, and some percussion in her home studio,” Digital Dream is unique in that she “mixed a couple of tracks herself, which [she] hasn’t done before in any of [her] albums.” Furthermore, Digital Dream boasts an impressive group of collaborations from artists such as Brian Skeel, the Lightning Kids, Kraver & Elliott, and Fulvio Colasanto.
Even beyond her own albums, where flawless production is easily becoming a trademark for LAU, she continues to innovate with her work with Aztec Records, the label that she founded alongside Ariel Amejeiras fourteen years ago. After multiple years of work garnering experience as the Creative Director at Aztec Records, LAU exploded in popularity with her internationally successful debut album Believer (2021), followed by her second album Circumstance (2022), which reached #22 on the UK Apple Music Electronic Album chart.
