Magic Wands Releases Magic in New Single, “Armour”

Life is all about imbalance, but it’s about how you juggle it all… Magic Wands released a new single, “Armour,” in hopes to shine this idea on the concept of vulnerability being beautiful. Magic Wands consist of Chris Valentine, as the guitarist, bassist, and synthesizer, and Dexy Valentine, as the guitarist, synthesizer, and vocalist. Their press release explains how they are known for “their unique and dreamy but undefinable sound - often incorporating elements of gothic postpunk, dark dreampop, textured guitars, droning synths, and ethereal vocals to create an otherworldly atmosphere.” When I first listened to this song, it made me feel seen and want to bask in its dreamlike essence. I heard its beauty wisp through ear-to-ear—some would say it was magical. The sound they create is quite unique. The synthesizers are captivating and satisfying to the ears, especially with how soft its lyrics whisper, creating a breathtaking ambience.

Dexy Valentine explains “‘Armour’ came about spontaneously as all our songs do. It’s a reflection on the human paradox, a need for protection and an equally strong desire for connection and freedom.” In other words, they use their music platform to express “(finding) a balance between shielding oneself and embracing vulnerability.” Vulnerability is what keeps the world round, we each experience and express ourselves differently, and that's what makes life a beautiful mess—and that’s A-Okay. “Armour” reminds me of the feeling of looking outside your car window on a rainy day and wrapping yourself up in your emotions.

This song is now in my playlist for two reasons: its vulnerability and unique beat gives me the opportunity to sway my feelings out and its vibe is hard to resist. If you are feeling under the weather, take the time to listen to “Armour” to feel those feelings because remember, you aren’t alone in how you feel—it’s part of human nature.
