mxmtoon Returns With Latest Single “i hate texas”

WRITTEN BY JENNA MICHAELLA

Everyone cheer, one of my favorite artists has released new music! mxmtoon is back with her latest single, “i hate texas”. This is her first solo mxmtoon track since she revisited her 2018 EP, plum blossom. She also released “post-post apocalyptic dance party” for “LEGOHorizon Adventures™” plus collaborations with Lyn Lapid (“back from the dead”) and Ricky Montgomery and Cavetown (“Nobody Loves Me”).

“i hate texas” is a fun one from mxmtoon. It plays into her classic bedroom-pop style and ethereal vocals with a more Southern twist. It’s evident in the use of instruments like fiddles, which is typical of more country-esque songs. It’s a sound I have never heard before from the singer-songwriter, but it makes sense within the context of the song.

The single is a heartwrenching track detailing a failed relationship that affected her so much that she had to completely change who she was, including “going Southern”. She sings “I’m turning every corner with exceeded caution / Hoping, praying, begging that you’re not in Austin / I hate Texas, but the exits have more room / To run away from you”. I love that the themes of the lyrics are reflected musically as well.

I am so excited that mxmtoon has new music out. I love all of her EPs, I love her album, and I hope this is a sign of more music to come!
