*Severance Spoiler Alert*
Picture this: you open Spotify to discover some new music when you come across something familiar. It’s music from your workplace but remixed? Normally, this would be a nightmare. But not in the case of ODESZA’s newest project, “Music To Refine To: A Remix Companion To Severance.”
In January of this year, Apple reached out to the electronic music group ODESZA to make a remix of the soundtrack from their award-winning show “Severance.” The project has a fun tongue-in-cheek title, “Music To Refine To”, a reference to the endless playlists on YouTube to distract us while we study or work. Additionally, it references “refining” the type of computer work the main cast of “Severance” does as office workers at the fictional company Lumon.
The electronic mixing pairs well with the eerie instrumentals of the show by Theodore Shapiro. ODESZA turns the creepy high piano notes into soothing beats any glassy-eyed innie would love to work with their “Entering Lumon” remix. The project evolves into ODESZA’s classic club vibes with the mixing of “Music of Wellness” with synths and an upbeat feel.
As a huge fan of the show myself, I jumped toward my laptop keys to listen to these remixes. I have thoroughly enjoyed them so far while I do my own day-to-day tasks. If you are not an employee of Lumon trying to distract yourself from your “mysterious and important” work, you’ll still enjoy this project as well.
You can listen to ODESZA’s newest project on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube. If you would like to see ODESZA live, they will be playing in Las Vegas, Nevada during May through November of this year. You can find out more information on their website on www.odesza.com.
