Paul Russell Releases New Single “Homecoming” as an Introduction to his Debut EP Again Sometime?

WRITTEN BY CHERRYLLE URBANO

If you recall last year’s viral hit “Lil Boo Thang”, you’ll be excited to know that American rapper Paul Russell (he/him) has just released a new song, “Homecoming” as a teaser for his debut EP Again Sometime?, which was released on August 30th.

Again Sometime? marks the first part of a series of stories Russell wants to share—a simple tale about two people celebrating the start of their relationship. It also depicts Russell's own feelings about entering a new phase in his lifel: he describes the song as being “…about the excitement of coming home and knowing you’ve been changed. It’s about entering a new season but not forgetting the old.”

“Homecoming” has a retro, old-school vibe. With smooth lyrics that make you want to groove and smile, it’s the perfect track as summer winds down and we get back into the swing of things. Its catchy lyrics had me singing along, as I felt the autumn breeze slipping through the car windows on my own road trip. Towards the bridge, there’s a little dance break and it goes right back to the familiar beat we know. It's definitely a song to dance to when you’re coming home and being greeted by old friends and family you haven’t seen in a while.

As one of the many people who contributed to the over 250,000,000 streams of “Lil Boo Thang”, I’m extremely thrilled for the rest of the album. It will include three new tracks, as well as “Slippin”, his recent collaboration with Meghan Trainor “Say Cheese”, “Eat Pray Love”, and a return to “Lil Boo Thang”, which is a sweet nod to where it all began.

If you’re lucky, you might catch Russell on Meghan Trainor’s Timeless Tour. Be sure to check out his new album, and get ready to dance!
