I know we all want fall to be here already, but what if summer lasted forever? Rec Hall’s new single, “Bored with My Feet”, gives off the ultimate summer energy to keep that summer feeling alive. This song feels like the mist of the ocean breeze, wind in your hair, sand between your toes, and the sun beaming on your face. Dare I list more?
Rec Hall is an indie-rock band featuring John Barry on guitar and vocals, Lance Meliota on drums, and Ben Tyrrell on guitar and bass. The band has a long history, beginning when Barry and Meliota became friends in preschool, which led to their long-lasting friendship of bonding over music. Tyrrell joined the trio in high school—in the press release, “The three-piece went on to win a series of ‘Battle of the Bands’ competitions and performed local gigs at a relentless pace.” What makes their music unique is the collaboration between the trio that enhances a unique sound. Their strong friendship and passion for music can clearly be seen in the incredible music they put out.
When I first listened to this song, it instantly gave me joy. It had a vibrant beat with a catchy chorus that called for an instant sing-along. Tyrrell explains, “‘Bored with My Feet’ is about the sensation of being suddenly won over, converted to a new way of life. It’s about having your prejudices completely overwhelmed by the feeling of finally being alive, past the shores of shirt collars and rigidity.” All in all, the song gives listeners the boost they often need. My favorite part of the song is the background vocals present in the pre-chorus. The vocals manage to blend with the lyrics perfectly, yet stand out and maintain their own unique sound.
