Indie alt-pop band Rec Hall announced the release of their latest single, “Olive,” on October 4th. The band features guitarist and vocalist John Barry, drummer Lance Meliota, and guitarist and bassist Ben Tyrrell. They created this sun-soaked sound that was inspired by the musical eras of the “60s through the 2000s.”
According to the release, “‘Olive’ is about unrequited love and how keeping low expectations is sometimes for the best. Falling in love with someone who isn’t in a position to love you back is a devastating yet powerful feeling.” The song captures the bittersweet essence of being in an unrequited love. The lush instrumentation creates a dreamy soundscape that evokes the sensation of floating on water. I can definitely say that we’ve all had our fair share of heartbreak, which allows for a relatable and moving experience. It’s the type of music that makes you daydream about that crush you have because you know there isn’t any opportunity to be together—creating this deeper meaning to the song.
With its enchanting vibe, “Olive” is the perfect soundtrack for a day by the water—ideal for daydreaming, reflection, or simply enjoying a moment of tranquility. I do think that this song is also the perfect background to a teen television show of a 90s prom night.
In addition to their new release, Rec Hall is hitting the road on their Way Too Late tour, sharing the stage with AX and the Hatchetmen as they travel across America. Join Rec Hall on this exciting journey, and be sure to stream “Olive” when you can!
