Hidden talents have coalesced into a trio-band, coming together into an indie-pop group called Phoneboy. Consisting of singer / guitarists Wyn Barnum and Ricky Dana, keyboardist Jordan Torrest, and bassist James Fusco, this band has been showcasing their passion for music ever since they formed in college. Their motto is getting us to put our phones down and instead, as mentioned by their press release, “finally get[ting] back out on the dancefloor for one last dance, and then another, and then another.” I couldn’t agree more! I love finding music I can move my hips or bop my head to.
Recently, they released a new single, “I Look Alive.” Being a band enthusiast, I was full of excitement and thrilled to listen to their newest single. With an energetic, powerful beat and the help of drums and guitars, it creates the perfect soundscape to escape and dance to. They bring the party to life through their music and creativity of their music video that centers around a high-school prom. Using experimental elements, the close-ups and cool monster / zombie styles emphasizes the lyrics. Its lyrics focus on being oneself, bringing yourself to life, and knocking down all of our demons and battles—being okay with letting go, getting loose, and having fun!
I can’t wait to see what else Phoneboy has more to offer. Check out their music video and rock out to “I Look Alive”: https://youtu.be/LqDPZDso-F0?si=aT7hZR1M9eFZ5Vrm.
