Missing that special someone calls for listening to “Postcards” by Mackenzy Mackay (he/him). Mackay is originally from Yorkshire but now lives in London. His career skyrocketed in 2023 when getting attention online through his single, “The One That You Call.” His professional life involves traveling a lot. As mentioned in his press release, “This nomadic lifestyle has inspired and informed many of his songs and lyrics, lending a unique perspective to his music.”
“Postcards” explores missing your special someone. We can all think of that one person we can’t live a second without. You miss them more each day as the time apart grows. As the writer, Mackay’s inspiration came from his life on the road. He explains, “Playing shows in all these amazing places for amazing people—I absolutely love that, however the downside is being away from home, but knowing it’ll all be okay in the end when I get home and get to see the one I’ve been missing. There’s nothing better than that feeling.” I appreciate that the tempo changes, giving it a unique rhythm. The concept of this song gives a longing feeling, however he creates a catchy, embracing feel. His vocals are unique to the sound and the background vocals blend nicely. It allows the lyrics a chance to tell a story. The storytelling elements emphasize the lyrics and its message loud and clear.
His success is only starting as he takes on a worldwide tour to New Zealand, Canada, USA, and Australia this month! Maybe each place he goes to, he will collect a postcard in honor of this song. How cool would that be? Being an artist like Mackay, he definitely has more up his sleeves. Stay tuned for more of his music!
