Iconic punk rock duo Um, Jennifer? have just released their new single, “Fishy.” The New York City-based singers and songwriters call it “...a song about having the worst night of your life but still looking snatched,” and I can’t help but agree—with an intensely backing track and grunge-grainy soundscape, this song has me head-banging like I’ve never head-banged before. These two trans artists are changing my world with their pouty, ironic, and heart-wrenching lyricism, and I suggest you go give “Fishy” a listen!
The song closely follows their previously critically acclaimed debut EP, The Girl Class, and most recent single "Went On T." Just like their previous work, “Fishy” is continuing the band’s unique take on empowering “slut rock” woven through with hilariously sarcastic lyrics: and their niche is finally being recognized for its breathtaking artistry. Billboard notes the song’s “secretly empowering message about the social ‘norms’ around gender expression—and more importantly, it’s just a really good song.” Nylon agrees, describing it as “a rollicking anthem, about ‘craving community within trans girlhood,’ turns more horny than educational (as it should).” Um, Jennifer? is breaking boundaries with their releases, and doing it in a way that’s absolutely stunning.
There are really no other words for it. All I can say is that, this self-proclaimed “slut rock” pair are well on their way to stardom. They truly are the “hottest f*cking b*tch[es] in New York City”!
