Unveiling "Serotonin Sunrise" from When The Sun Sets

WRITTEN BY CHERRYLLE URBANO

Pop-punk band When The Sun Sets released their new track, “Serotonin Sunrise,” on September 26. The song transports me back to my old pop-punk phase, which really never left—reminiscent of bands I used to listen to like Pierce The Veil and Black Veil Brides. Lately, I’ve been vibing with a lot of old pop-punk bands during my trip, and this track fits that energy perfectly. I love the vibe this band gives off, and the drums are just fantastic. Honestly, little me would have wished this song was made just for her!

When The Sun Sets draws inspiration from bands like New Found Glory and A Day To Remember, aiming to create relatable songs that speak out about mental health and suicide awareness. They released their debut EP, Transparent, back in May 2020 and gained traction with their growing fanbase. This newest song marks an experiment with different elements within the pop-punk genre. According to vocalist Zack Baumgartner, “‘Serotonin Sunrise’ is a love song; it’s about finding your person. For myself, everything in my life changed for the better. It’s like I found my purpose again… Things that were difficult by yourself are just simple with the right person.”

I really enjoyed the lyricism and the message they’re spreading to their fanbase. It’s an incredible way to raise awareness while fostering a community for those who may feel out of place—these connections can be extremely important for someone who needs them.

If you have a chance and want to be part of this pop-punk band’s community as they help spread awareness for mental health and suicide prevention, stream their latest release! If you want to see these incredible musicians in person, they will also be headlining “The Chaos & Cheers” tour in November with other bands like Gold Steps and Mighty Vices!
