WRITTEN BY CHERRYLLE URBANO
Vlad Holiday (he/him), born in Romania, recently released the bender-ender “I Don’t Wanna Party Anymore”, featuring pop country artist Kacey Musgraves (she/her). The two artists, who connected through mutual friends, spent hours singing together over an acoustic guitar until the sunrise. This shared experience inspired the lyrics of their new collaboration.
Holiday describes the song as being “about the feeling the day after a long bender, sick of going through the serotonin dip over and over again, realizing you should probably change your ways and be better to yourself—BUT getting pulled back in and having the process start all over again.” The song blends Holiday and Musgraves’ voices together to create a stunning, melodic harmony. It features a mischievous and sultry quality, with Holiday’s low, drained, and enticing voice contrasting Musgraves’ lighter and more lucid tone. You can almost sense the fatigue of having gone through a long bender and the struggle to break free from the cycle. The beat is groovy and infectious, driven by a catchy bass line and rhythm, making the track both reflective and confessional.
I've probably streamed it 100 times because of how addictive the blend of their voices is—the duet's mix of sultry and weary tones creates an intimate experience, almost like being caught between two people dancing closely. It feels as if their voices are whispering directly to you, sending shivers down your spine.
I highly encourage everyone to keep streaming the song, as I have over the past few days. If you're lucky, you might catch Holiday on tour with Cage The Elephant from August to November.
