WRITTEN BY NEVAEH TILLMAN
Welcome to finding your new favorite artist—Valley. This band, consisting of Rob Laska as lead vocalist, Alex Dimauro on bass, and Karah James on drums, have been in the industry for almost a decade and that experience has truly allowed the band to wonder if they were truly making the sound they wanted to make.
Valley decided to find themselves, individually and as a band, through therapy. This unlocked their most recent album, Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden. They discovered the eponymous previously-lost demo “Water the Flowers, Pray for a Garden,” which showcased they always knew the sound they dreamed of making—it was simply a matter of finding it within themselves. Laska explains, “We weren't looking for things to write about. We knew exactly what we needed to write about. This is the first time I think we've ever witnessed as a band where everything's there, we just have to reach and grab it.”
The album focuses on their journeys of growth through lyrical storytelling, while speaking to the listener relaying a beautiful message of love, growth, and change. Being vulnerable in their songs allows fans to connect and find something within themselves while listening to the album; It’s almost as if they are speaking directly to you. I know I heard them: My personal favorites are “When You Know Someone”, “Let it Rain”, and “Growing (Apart)”. I found myself immediately hooked within the first five seconds of hearing them. They moved me in a way I didn’t expect them too. The entire album contains a unique soundscape that combines genres of folklore, pop, and indie with fun energetic guitar solos.
If you want more of Valley, I recommend seeing them live September 28th for their headlining tour. For more information, check out their website: https://www.thisisvalley.com/tour/.
